15th International String Competition Rudolf Matz

COMPETITION RULES

1.  The competition is open to young musicians from all over the world.

2.  The competitors are divided into five categories, according to the years of learning. Violinists, violists, cellists and double bass players compete together in each category.

PROGRAMME:

1st CATEGORY (competitors who have been playing an instrument for 2 years time or less) – max. 10 minutes.

a) any composition of competitor’s choice – a slow tempo
b) any composition of competitor’s choice – a fast tempo
c) a piece of the origin country of competitor’s musical education.

2nd CATEGORY (competitors who have been playing an instrument for 4 years or less) – max. 15 minutes.

a) any composition of competitor’s choice – a slow tempo
b) any composition of competitor’s choice – a virtuoso piece (according to competitor’s skills and years of studying an instrument)
c) a piece of the origin country of competitor’s musical education.

3rd CATEGORY (competitors who have been playing an instrument for 6 years or less) – max. 20 minutes.

a) any composition of competitor’s choice – a slow tempo
b) any etude (study) or capriccio
c) a virtuoso piece
d) a piece of the origin country of competitor’s musical education


4th CATEGORY
 (competitors who have been playing an instrument for 8 years or less) – max. 35 minutes.

a) any piece of slow tempo
b) any etude (study) or capriccio
c) any virtuoso piece
d) any concerto movement of competitor’s choice
e) a piece of the origin country of competitor’s musical education


5th CATEGORY
 (competitors who have been playing an instrument for 10 years or less) – max. 70 minutes in both the First and the Second Stage.

The First stage

a) a piece of a slow tempo
b) any etude (study) or capriccio
c) any concerto movement of competitor’s choice
d) a piece of the origin country of competitor’s musical education

The Second Stage

a) any virtuoso piece of competitor’s choice
b) any sonata from the standard repertoire

3. The participants bear the expenses of travel and accomodation.

4. In the event of cancellation, the entrance fee will not be refunded.

5. Official piano accompanists are available for all categories. One rehearsal and performance with the official accompanist are free of charge.

Optionally, each additional rehearsal with the official accompanist will be charged 200 Kn.

6. Competitors who need official accompanist are required to bring their own piano score. Also, a copy of the score for piano accompaniment has to be sent  at the latest by February 15th 2016 scanned to the e-mail:  rudolfmatz2016@gmail.com or to the following address:

7. Competitors may bring their own accompanists at their own expense.

8. Applications should be sent by February 15th, 2016, through  on line registration. Should there be any problems, please contact us by e-mail: rudolfmatz2016@gmail.com.

9. The Application form should be filled in thoroughly, stating the original names of composers and pieces in full length, as well as the exact duration of each piece.

10. In addition to the Application form, the receipt of paid entrance fee should be scanned and sent to rudolfmatz2016@gmail.com.

11. Entrance fee of 60 € has to be paid to the following bank account:

12. All compositions should be performed by heart except duo sonatas.

13. The exact performance order in all categories is determined by the first letter of candidate’s family name, starting with the letter “C”.

14. All performances are open to the public.

15. The organizer have the right to reproduce parts of the competition in the media.

16. The prize winners are determined by the Jury voting. The Jury member who is in any kind of kinship and / or professional contact with some of the contestants (at least one year before the competition), can not give vote to those competitors.

17. The Jury and the Head Office reserve the right to reduce the length of performance.

18. Decisions of the Jury are irrevocable.

19. In each category, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize are assigned. According to the decision of the Jury, it is possible to assign more than one First, Second and Third prize.

20.  In each category, the First prize is monetary award, which, according to the decision of the Jury, may be split among several candidates.

•1st Category – 100 EUR
•2nd Category – 200 EUR
•3rd Category – 300 EUR
•4th Category – 500 EUR
•5th Category – 1.000 EUR – sponsored by Dominis Music, Canada

21. According to the decision of the Jury, in each category it is possible to assign a number of Special awards and Special Mention Diplomas.

22. According to the decision of the Jury, it is possible not to award some of the prizes.

23. All participants receive a certificate of participation.

24. The prize winners, selected by the Jury, are obliged to perform at the final concert.

25. The competition schedule will be announced until March 5th, 2016.
